The Dogtra 175NCP Dog Training Collar (175NCP) may be a beginner or starter collar but it is just as powerful as some of the other models. The difference you will see with the collar is the range. It has the shortest range at 400 yards and has a 3/4 in collar that will fit up to an 18 inch neck dog. If your dog is larger than that you can always pick up an additional vonyl collar and attach the receiver through that collar.
The collar is still waterproof just like all the other Dogtra collars and the transmitter is water resistant which means that if it is raining and it gets a little wet you will still be fine, just don't submerge the tranmitter under water.
There are two sets of probes for the transmitter. One is a longer version for dogs that have the thick long fur. There is a red dog on the transmitter and collar and when you put the dots next to each other it will turn the collar on or off. The dial on the transmitter is a continuous movement, not a clicking type so you can slowly turn the dial to change the intensity.
The transmitter has two buttons. The top one is a "nick" and will give a slight stimulation such as a tapping feeling and that is all. The constant button will emit a continuous stimulation for a period of 20 seconds and then will quit. You would need to release the button and depress again to have the stimulation continue.
The best place to position the collar is right behind the ears with the receiver box on one side of the neck just under the ear area. This area is more sensitive and you will not need to use hardly any level of stimulation for your dog to feel a sensation. This is a very humane way to train.
Once nice thing with the Dogtra Electronic dog training collar is that it has a very small antenna and a lanyard type of cloth strap to hang from your neck. The collar has a plastic or resin type of collar which holds the receiver box. There are plastic loops on the sides of the transmitter box that the collar straps go through. This will allow you to change the collar in the future if necessary. It also allows you to reposition the transmitter box anywhere on the collar to make it more convenient for you to attach the collar to your dog any way you like.
